What's taking so long with the public records requests?
Last month I submitted multiple public records requests. What's taking so long? On Monday I gave public comment to ask for an update.

In my last post, I talked about having submitted two public records requests - one for the operational audit defined in the TEAS by-laws and the other for the last few sets of meeting minutes from the TEAS committees. It's been several weeks at this point, so I thought it was time to get an update.

The takeaway from today's public comment seems to be that the county is taking the position that just because Commissioner Murtaugh serves on a board, it doesn't normally make that board's documents public.
Maybe that works for most boards, as most boards I've been able to review the governing documents for since giving comment seem to be made up of "members" that just happen to be picked by the government entity. The government entity isn't the member itself. In the case of TEAS, the county government is the member. Not people picked by county government. I think the county's on the losing side of the argument here.
More to come!
